Wins Realtree Beards or Bust Competition

Hunter’s Specialties Pro Staff member Eddie Salter proved once again why he’s considered one of the top turkey hunters in the country with his recent win of the Beards or Bust competition sponsored by Realtree.

Two teams spent ten days hunting for the prestigious grand slam – one of each of the subspecies associated with the slam – the Merriam’s, Osceola, Rio Grande and Eastern. Each contestant had their birds scored, with the hunter having the highest total score being declared the winner.

Eddie represented Team APG, along with his cameraman Phillip Culpepper. The other contestant, representing Realtree AP was Jeff Shepard, of Dublin, Georgia. Jeff is a local turkey hunting legend in his hometown and often guides others on successful hunts. He was accompanied by his cameraman Daniel Thomas, the producer of Realtree Outdoors.

After hundreds of miles on the road and ten days of non-stop turkey hunting action, the final scores were added up with Eddie taking first place over Jeff by a score of 239.25 to 223.53.

“This was a great experience,” said Eddie. “Having fans follow our hunts on the Realtree website and seeing their posted comments each day made it feel like they were right there rooting for us. I’m honored to be a part of the Beards or Bust contest and I want to thank Realtree for putting everything together.”
